2024-2025 Season: Mary Poppins REGISTRATION

THE SHOW: 

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

REGISTRATION FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 6 - 9:

  • Register your student for Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins and they are in the show. 

ORIENTATION & AUDITION PREP (for CAST and PARENTS): 

  • Orientation for cast and parents is Saturday, August 3, 2024, 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.  
  • Audition Prep for students continues from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
  • Parents are invited to a Meet and Greet in the Shearer Studio at 6:30 p.m. on the third floor across from the elevator.

  • See the Commitment Calendar (you may not be called for all rehearsals and may only be called for a portion of some rehearsals).

COMMITMENT:

  • $475 Commitment Fee for musical theater training to develop your talent in singing, movement, and character development in a supportive, nurturing environment culminating in full performances. Includes a costuming fee. A limited amount of partial tuition assistance available.
  • Attend all rehearsals to which you are called. See 
  • Families are asked to contribute volunteer hours in a variety of production areas to help make the show a success. 

BRING TO ORIENTATION and AUDITIONS August 3 & 4:

  • Shoes and appropriate clothes to move in (no flip flops, crocs, boots, etc.) — you will be taught a short dance combination to be performed in a group.  
  • A water bottle labeled with your name.

The session will include learning song clips and a dance combination for the audition as well as tips and tricks about how to audition well.  

Parents and siblings are invited to a Meet and Greet at 6:30 p.m. after Orientation in the Shearer Studio on the third floor across from the elevator. After the reception, you may wait for your student in the lobby or leave and come back at 8:00.

2024-2025 Season: Stages of the Game Teen Improv Troupe (Fringe Edition) AUDITIONS

AUDITIONS FOR STAGES OF THE GAME TEEN IMPROV TROUPE: 2024 FRINGE EDITION 

  • For Students in Grades 8 - 12
  • Coached by E. B. Okung

Teens will explore the basic elements of comedy improv, including listening and agreeing, building relationships, developing characters, exploring emotions, and building environments. Using audience suggestions to inform each scene, the performances will include short form improv games (in the style of the popular TV show, “Whose Line is it Anyway”), and a long form improv performance piece. The troupe will perform two shows in the 2024 Rochester Fringe Festival and rehearsals will take place over a period of six weeks.

CAST:

Calling performers in Grades 8 - 12; serious performers willing to work as part of a team to share their talents, refine their skills, and create a high quality show. 

The troupe will perform two shows in the 2024 Rochester Fringe Festival and rehearsals will take place over a period of six weeks.

Performers of all races, religions, national origins, sexual orientations, gender identities, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to audition. 

Please consider your commitment to the troupe and show prior to your audition. Each troupe member is crucial to the success of the show. While improv can be unpredictable because you’re making everything up on the spot, we can predict that you will have a lot of fun!

You will be called to all rehearsals and need to have no more than two conflicts

Summer 2024: Sweeney Todd School Edition (Grades 7-12 + 2024 HS Grads) in Fall 2024

The Story 

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

The Story

When young Alice finds herself in a strange world where everything seems upside down, she must find her way home…and find herself along the way. As she travels through Wonderland, she encounters all of the iconic characters that audiences have come to love: including the ever-tardy White Rabbit, the grinning Cheshire Cat, a cool Caterpillar, the wacky Mad Hatter, and the hot-tempered Queen of Hearts.

Summer 2024: Seussical JR. (Grades 2-6 in Fall 2024)

The Story

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Summer 2024: Scene Study: The Laramie Project (Grades 6-12 in Fall 2024)

The Story

Explore and grow your acting skills in this scene study camp. The Laramie Project presents a deeply complex portrait of a community’s response to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man living in Laramie, Wyoming. In a series of moving reflections, the residents of Laramie share their reactions to the hate crime and subsequent media frenzy. The play portrays the impact Matthew’s death had on this small town while also demonstrating the power of the human spirit to triumph over hate, bias and violence.

Interested in gaining practical experience in theater directing, stage management, choreography, music, costuming, lighting, sound, sets, props, or crew? Stages offers students the opportunity to learn and apply their skills, assisting with Summer Camps at A Magical Journey Thru Stages.

Please note this is an application only, but students will be assigned to at least one spot. Students will be selected and assigned to roles by the staff and will receive a notification after the roles have been decided.
