Community: Family Engagement
Description:
Engage with families at and help plan orientation open houses. Help represent Stages at community events such as Rochester Children’s Book Festival, Halloween at the Market, Clothesline Art, and other community festivals, encouraging people to stop by, talking about our programs, answering questions, providing handouts, providing feedback about Stages’ presence at the event to Stages management.
Requirements:
Enjoys party planning, meeting and connecting people. Creative, idea maker. Good follow-through. Family participation in and knowledge of Stages programs. Outgoing personality, enjoys talking with people. Fluency in English required; fluency in conversational Spanish and/or other prominent locally-used languages appreciated.
Community: Alumni Engagement
Description:
Helps build a Stages alumni community to support Stages through volunteerism, financially, and as mentors/contacts for students as they explore internships and careers. Responsibilities: Assemble and maintain alumni lists. Propose ways to engage with alumni to keep them active in the Stages community. Help develop profiles of Stages alumni to show how they’ve used their Stages experiences. Monitor the Stages website and social media to recommend content updates.
Requirements:
Ability to use Google Suite (mostly Docs and Sheets). Strong online search skills. Good understanding and use of social media. Helpful to be Stages alumni with connections to others.
Fundraising: Events
Description:
Help plan and produce Stages fundraising events, including Celebrate Stages and other events through the year. Help Identify potential sites, develop program, obtain refreshments, recruit volunteers, .
Requirements:
Planning skills.Volunteer time. Connections to volunteers, Stages alumni, and/or theater professionals helpful.
Fundraising: Advertising
Description:
Helps seek out advertising for Stages show programs. Responsibilities may include: Helping plan organizations, businesses, and individuals to solicit, asking organizations, businesses, and individuals to buy program ads, helping follow up with solicited organizations.
Requirements:
Knowledge of the local community. Collaboration. Willingness to ask.
Admin: Photography/Videography
Description:
Come to limited rehearsals and final dress and/or performances of each show and capture high quality video, audio and photos to be used for grant applications and marketing.
Requirements:
Experience doing photography and/or videography in challenging conditions such as stage lighting and large-room sound. Competence with Adobe Photoshop or other photo editing software, Apple iMovie, or other video editing software. Must have own high-quality camera and microphone.
Fundraising: Stages Store
Description:
Explore ideas for creating a Stages Store on Amazon or other online, print-on-demand, or in-person store. Prepare a proposal that includes product selection, pricing (cost and retail), sales tax implications, inventory, selling process, volunteers needed, and estimated expenses and income; search for relevant products on Amazon.com and build and maintain a spreadsheet (template provided) of items to sell; manage (or suggest changes for) the web page that presents the items for sale; monitor sales and submit monthly reports on sales, revenue, issues.
Requirements:
Likes to shop. Good knowledge of theater-related items kids and families would like. Good with spreadsheets. Experience with retail sales, inventory, 3rd party sales, and NY State retail sales tax collection and payment preferred. Creativity in product selection and design. Interest in starting something new to benefit Stages.
Show: Concessions
Description:
Duties: Tidy lobby, setup concessions 75 minutes before curtain, collect money, clean up lobby, and re-stock refrigerator and baskets. Report to: Concessions Manager Jennifer Serventi.
Requirements:
Arrive: When your child is called. Skills Needed: Smile, Math (total up costs and make change). Dress: Nicely (black and white preferably).
Show: Usher/House Manager
Description:
Ensure adequate setup of seating, hand out programs, scan tickets, help patrons with special needs, tidy before and after performance.
Requirements:
Arrive: 1 hour prior to curtain. Skills Needed: Friendliness, helpfulness. Dress: Nicely, black and white or "show colors" preferred. Note: Ushers will need a ticket if they will attend the show they are working.
Show: Strike Crew
Description:
Following the final performance, help disassemble and store set pieces as well as general cleanup.
Show: Dressing Room Supervision
Description:
During tech rehearsals and performances, help maintain safe, relatively quiet dressing rooms for the performers; if you are a mom or dad, you are already well trained for this. Help students with costumes as needed (pinning, quick changes, hair, buttons, ties, final check before going on-stage).
Requirements:
If you are working a performance, please also sign up to work a tech rehearsal for training. Arrives at Call time for tech and dress rehearsals and performances. Skills needed: shushing, calm demeanor, operating a safety pin, bandaid, and/or tape. Dress: casual, with comfortable shoes.
Community: Open Mic Producer
Description:
Plans and produces Open Mic events. Responsibilities may include: Work with staff to schedule Open Mic events; arrange volunteers to fulfill various roles (house manager, usher, concessions shopping, concessions sales, setup, strike, etc.); draft marketing materials for staff to review and send (writeups for Stages and ticketing websites, emails, and social media, posters/flyers, etc.); documents processes, procedures; evaluate events with recommendations for future events.
Requirements:
Excellent planning skills. Excellent writing/marketing skills. Connections with Stages families to generate performers, volunteers, attendance. Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets).
Admin: Show Poster Organizers
Description:
Arrange show posters on the walls after performances. Get show posters when they arrive, frame them, put them on the wall, replace older ones.
Requirements:
Poster hanging skill. A good eye for placement, alignment. An initial review/assessment, then periodic as new show posters arrive.
Show: Sets (Pre-Production)
Description:
Help construct and paint sets under the direction of the master carpenter. Dates and times to be arranged. Please list your name, email, and phone # and availability (evenings, weekends, daytime, etc.)
Show: Costume Seamstress
Description:
Help perform cast fittings, create costume pieces, assist with costume checks and modifications, label costumes. Generate costume list per scene. Assist with returning costumes to their rightful owners or to storage when show closes.
Requirements:
Skills: sewing, labeling, hot gluing, organizing.
Show: Costume Pinner/Organizer
Description:

Description:

Show: Cast Party Organizer
Description:
Develop list of items, understand required funds, solicit from families, decorate, set up, clean up. Party will be held at Stages following closing performance.
Show: Flower Crafter
Description:
Assemble bouquets of wooden flowers to sell at the concessions table during performances (instructions and materials provided).
Show: Concessions Shopper
Description:
Using a list given to you, shop at Costco or BJ’s early in the week of the performances. Bring in and stock refrigerator and concession shelves by Thursday of performance week. Check after each performance to see if more purchases are needed. You will be reimbursed.
Requirements:
Costco or BJ's card.
Admin: Finance/Accounting
Description:
Have finance or accounting expertise? Help us with our bookkeeping, accounting, and budget management.
Requirements:
CPA, CFP, or other finance or accounting experience.
Admin: Technology
Description:
Help us maintain and support our information technology infrastructure, including our cloud-based data management systems.
Requirements:
Experience with data entry, databases, Google Workspace, ticket sales systems, and/or Wix/website management.
Show: Sound/Lights
Description:
Help run sound or lights for shows. More experienced people can possibly help design sound or lights for shows.
Requirements:
Stages training for sound or lights, or experience with stage sound or lights. Must be approved by Technical Director.
Board: Board Of Directors
Description:
The Board of Directors is the governing body of A Magical Journey Thru Stages, focused on the long-term financial and operational sustainability of Stages. Board terms are for 3 years, with expected attendance at monthly meetings and participation on at least one committee (Advancement, Finance, Governance, etc.).
Requirements:
Strategic thinking, community connections. Must make a meaningful annual donation and help cultivate and steward donors. Interested board member applicants are screened by the Governance Committee, which makes nominations for election by the Board of Directors.
Board: Advancement Committee
Description:
Discuss the short- and long-term fiscal and sustainability priorities of the Corporation and makes recommendations to the Board with respect to plans for meeting those priorities, including proposed fundraising, marketing, and communications plans.
Requirements:
Strategic thinking; experience with advancement, fundraising, marketing in nonprofit organizations preferred.
Board: Finance Committee
Description:
The Finance Committee serves as Stages’ principal group for ongoing financial planning and management. The committee also plays an important role in setting the organization’s long-range financial goals and ways of achieving them, in the context of the Strategic Plan.
Requirements:
Strategic thinking; experience in financial planning, accounting, investments preferred.
Board: Governance Committee
Description:
The Governance Committee helps identify, screen, and nominate candidates for the Corporation Board and Committees, and also makes recommendations related to membership and how the Board works.
Requirements:
Strategic thinking, community connections. Must be a member of the Board of Directors.
Board: Volunteer Committee
Description:
The Volunteer Committee identifies areas in which volunteer efforts would promote the mission of Stages, coordinate those volunteer efforts with the staff, and develop plans for soliciting and assigning volunteers as needed.
Requirements:
Community connections; prior volunteer management experience preferred.
